Marriage in Heaven

Will there be marriage in heaven? This is something I have always pondered. I can remember being told that there isn't marriage in heaven because of something Jesus said during his time here on earth. In the bible, it talks about marriage at the resurrection.

The bible says that Sadducees, who had made it clear they did not believe in the resurrection, went to Jesus and asked him a question, hoping to confuse him or disprove him in front of the crowd. They said "“Teacher, Moses told us that if a man dies without having children, his brother must marry the widow and raise up offspring for him. Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children, he left his wife to his brother. The same thing happened to the second and third brother, right on down to the seventh. Finally, the woman died. Now then, at the resurrection, whose wife will she be of the seven, since all of them were married to her?”

Now remember, they weren't actually wanting to know the answer to the question because they didn't even believe in the resurrection. Jesus immediately corrected them. He told them, “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. But about the resurrection of the dead—have you not read what God said to you, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.”

So what does this mean? It says people will neither marry nor be given in marriage at the resurrection. Well what about those who are already married? It could be assumed that they will not be married either because this was how Jesus responded to the question about the woman who was married more than once, but it sounds like he is addressing the issue more about the resurrection of the dead and the issue that the Sadducees are trying to disprove Jesus.
Because I'm married and can't even imagine not being with my husband, I started researching this. If we become one with someone when we marry why would God separate us? I found a great link that explained a lot to me. Unfortunately hub pages is blocking my link tag. It talks there about how in heaven we will have unity and love with everyone because Christ is the center. There will be no jealousy, etc. I have always cried when I think about me or my husband passing and us not being together, but I know that my God is a loving God and that He has always had a better way than mine. He has gone to prepare a place for me and I am sure it is amazing and far better than I could ever hope for. I know with all my heart that He would not separate me from someone whom I am one with.

  1. 1Co_13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

Notice the last part of that scripture. I will be known as I am known. To me this is saying you will be known as the wife of your husband even in Heaven. Also, as you stated in your post, a married couple become as one.

I agree with your premise that you will still be your husband's wife in Heaven.
